Connecting a Evnetics Soliton motor controller

The Lithiumate Lite BMS and the Evnetics Soliton motor controller are very well matched, as both of their interfaces feature everything that is needed for an effective installation in an EV.

We offer to ways two warn the user that the battery pack is nearly empty: gradual reduction, or step reduction.
Both can be implemented together, if you wish.

In this solution, nearing the end of charge, the BMS reduces the available drive gradually, until the battery is empty

Using a pot throttle:

  • Connect the Lithiumate Lite BMS to the Evnetics Soliton motor controller:
    • Connect the BMS's "Discharge OK + " output to the motor controller's "IN2" input; this turns off the motor controller if the BMS determines that the battery is not able to provide current
    • Connect the two BMS's "Throttle reduce" outputs across the motor controller's "Throttle" and "Signal Ground" lines. this reduces the available drive, gradually, when the battery is nearly empty
  • Configure the Soliton:
    • IN2 as throttle reduce, set for 0 %, inverted

Using a HEPA / TPS / Hall effect throttle:

  • Connect the Lithiumate Lite BMS to the Evnetics Soliton motor controller:
    • Connect the BMS's "Discharge OK +" output to the motor controller's "IN2" input; this turns off the motor controller if the BMS determines that the battery is not able to provide current
    • Disconnect the throttle "Wiper" wire from the Soliton, and connect it to one end of a 2.2 kiloOhm resistor; connect the other end of the 2.2 kiloOhm resistor to the Soliton's "Wiper" input; this provides a way for the BMS to shunt to ground a portion of the signal from the Wiper line
    • Connect the two BMS's "Throttle reduce" outputs across the motor controller's "Throttle" and "Signal Ground" lines. this reduces the available drive, gradually, when the battery is nearly empty
  • Configure the Soliton:
    • IN2 as throttle reduce, set for 0 %, inverted

In this solution, nearing the end of charge, the BMS steps down the available drive to a "valet mode".

  • Connect the Lithiumate Lite BMS to the Evnetics Soliton motor controller:
    • Connect the BMS's "Discharge OK +" output to the motor controller's "IN2" input; this turns off the motor controller if the BMS determines that the battery is not able to provide current
    • Connect the BMS's "Warning +" output to the motor controller's "IN3" input; this reduces the available drive, is a single step, when the battery is nearly empty
  • Configure the Soliton:
    • IN2 as throttle reduce, set for 0 %, inverted
    • IN3 as throttle reduce, set for 15 %
